Please stop sharing AI-generated workslop
My take? Sharing raw, AI-generated slop (including so-called “research”) with another human colleague should be considered disrespectful.
We all mean well, of course. But what took you under a minute to produce could take your colleague an hour or more to review and respond to, and robs them of intellectual cycles they could’ve used for more productive or creative work. Making sense of your 4,000-word bot-genned word casserole isn’t what they set out to do today. Don’t do that to them.
Instead, spend some time reviewing, revising, and paring your generated AI slop yourself before asking another person to read it and give you their (presumably more valuable, because human?) thoughts. Internalize and edit it yourself first. You owe them that.
- Does it even make sense?
- Does it reflect your own thinking?
- Could it be made more concise? (Don’t think so? Try harder.)
- Is it worthy of the time it’s going to take your fellow human to review, internalize, and respond to it earnestly themselves — out of respect for you and your own human time and attention?
I’m rapidly reaching the point at which I’m simply going to have to start ignoring this stuff entirely. I’ve just lost too many person-weeks to it, and I’m not willing to do it anymore.
Value other people’s time and attention above all else. It’s really all we have, and we need to respect that.
